Attorney Stuart B. Shapiro |

Stuart B. Shapiro is a magna cum laude graduate of the State University of New York College at Buffalo and a 1982 graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law. He is the author of the internationally published book, “How to Survive a Deposition,” and numerous articles on Litigation Management as well as the former Editor of the “New York Law Newsletter” and the author of the "Conflicts of Interest and the Role and Obligations of Defense Counsel" section of the New York State Bar Association "Handbook on Insurance Law." He also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for James Publishing's "New York Insurance Practice Guide."

Mr. Shapiro is the former Corporate Counsel and Head of the Legal Department of the Merchant's Insurance Companies where he developed the parameters for the company Litigation Management program, and has also served as In-House Counsel for the Liberty Mutual and Nationwide Insurance Companies. He was the featured speaker at the New York State Bar Association Negligence and Compensation Law Section Annual Meeting, on "The Carrier/Defense Counsel Relationship."

He is admitted to the Bar in New York, Florida, U.S. District Courts (all Districts of New York), and the United States Supreme Court, He was appointed to the American Arbitration Association Panel of Arbitrators in 1986. He has served on the City of Buffalo Toxic Lead Abatement Task Force, is a member of the Erie County Bar Association's Negligence, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property, Computer and Entertainment Law, and Professional Ethics Committees. He has served as the Chairman of the Bar's weekly Continuing Legal Education Program and has been a frequent lecturer on topics such as "Case Settlement," "Computer Evaluation of Personal Injuries," "Obtaining Discovery in Arbitration Proceedings," "Deposition Preparation and Strategy," "Insurance Coverage," "Litigation Management," " Junk Science in the Courtroom," "Claim Tools on the Internet," “Winning Copyright Cases in Federal Court,” “Role of the Music Producer,” “Insurance Coverage for Intellectual Property,” “Cross-Border (Canada/U.S.) Claims Handling,” “Protecting Works of Fine Art,” “The Ethics of Humor in Litigation,” “The Use of Surveillance in Personal Injury Litigation,” and “Jury Selection.”

In addition to his practice in commercial, business, insurance coverage, personal injury and intellectual property litigation (patent, trademark and copyright), he represents numerous musicians, recording artists, record companies, and on-air radio and TV personalities.
