Our very own Stuart Shapiro was honored at the third annual “Key to the Locks” award ceremony held at the Erie Canal Discovery Center for writing a song about the Erie Canal. Stuart’s song was titled “The Lockport Locks (On The Erie Canal)”, which celebrates the genius of canal construction. Stuart was quoted as saying “I write some original songs. I play in several bands. I’ve never entered a song-writing contest before though. It’s pretty neat to win the first time.” Congratulations Stuart.
Maryann Saccomando Freedman has been very busy. On May 29th, Maryann’s portrait was dedicated in the Erie County Bar Association’s Headquarters as the first woman President of the Association and the New York State Bar Association. While there are caricatures of other former Presidents of the Bar Association at the Bar Headquarters, this is the second professional portrait of a former President of the Bar Association hanging at Bar Headquarters. On June 17th, Maryann was inducted into the Flags Hall of Fame at the Italian Festival. This honor recognizes Maryann’s heritage and her contribution to the Western New York community.
